Developmental changes in zebrafish embryos exposed to bisphenol A leeched from commonly used plastics

چکیده
Bisphenol A, an estrogen mimicker, is found in the commonly used plastic, polycarbonate. Zebrafish embryos were raised in water that had been heated in polycarbonate water bottles by either microwaving for 5 minutes, or boiling for one hour. Near total mortality was seen in 7 days for the embryos growing in bottle-microwaved water, and 9 days for those raised in bottle-boiled water. Zebrafish embryos were also grown in the following known concentrations of BPA: 2mg/l, 14mg/l, 16mg/l, 50mg/l, 135mg/l, and 235mg/l. A stepwise relationship between concentration of BPA and embryo lifespan was seen, and the lowest observed adverse effect level was at 14mg/l. Developmental changes in zebrafish 4

Early embryogenesis in zebrafish is affected by bisphenol A exposure
Exposure of a developing embryo or fetus to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) has been hypothesized to increase the propensity of an individual to develop a disease or dysfunction in his/her later life. Although it is important to understand the effects of EDCs on early development in animals, sufficient information about these effects is not available thus far. This is probably because of ...
متن کاملInvestigation of Toxicological Effects of di-2-ethylhexyl with Fish Embryo Test (FET) in Zebrafish (Danio rerio)
Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) is a plasticizer in a variety of consumer products. Given the adverse toxicity effects of DEHP on living organisms, its high consumption and dispersal has been caused a serious concern. . Nowedays, the Fish Embryo Test (FET) method is widely used among the conventional methods of toxicology .The aim of the this study was to determine the acute toxicity of Di(2-e...

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a commercially important high production chemical widely used in epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics, and is ubiquitous in the environment. Previous studies demonstrated that BPA activates estrogenic signaling pathways associated with adverse effects on reproduction in vertebrates and that exposure can induce epigenetic changes. We aimed to investigate the reproductive ...
متن کاملEffects of bisphenol A and triclocarban on brain-specific expression of aromatase in early zebrafish embryos.
Estrogen regulates numerous developmental and physiological processes. Most effects are mediated by estrogen receptors (ERs), which function as ligand-regulated transcription factors. Estrogen also regulates the activity of GPR30, a membrane-associated G protein-coupled receptor. Many different types of environmental contaminants can activate ERs; some can bind GPR30 as well. There is growing c...
متن کاملGene expression profile of zebrafish exposed to hypoxia during development.
Understanding how vertebrates respond to hypoxia can have important clinical implications. Fish have evolved the ability to survive long exposure to low oxygen levels. However, little is known about the specific changes in gene expression that result from hypoxia. In this study we used a zebrafish cDNA microarray to examine the expression of >4,500 genes in zebrafish embryos exposed to 24 h of ...
